Meet Sasha Pesic & RapidAPI

I'm Sasha Pesic, and I’m the COO of RapidAPI. RapidAPI is the world's largest marketplace of API's. We serve application developers by providing API's to them through our public marketplace. And we also have an enterprise grade offering, sold as a SaaS subscription, where we create a private API marketplace within Fortune 500 clients.

A Critical Enterprise Sales Hire

We were looking for our very first Enterprise Account Executive reporting to our Head of Sales. This was an especially critical role because it would be our first hire on the East Coast, we are now going to market with enterprise SaaS offerings, and we needed to get this role right. You don't have time as a startup to try a role, have it not work out, and then go back to the drawing board.

Lacking Traction

We hire Candidate Labs, and in about a week's time, we're getting spot on candidates. And then in 30 days, we're closing the best account executive that we could have hoped for, in a geography that was critical for us. Traction. And it just brought relief to us, where we're like, okay, we're gonna double down on this because whereas before it was just, you know, a constant stream of we're stuck in the mud, we're not getting where we need to be, now we're hitting the target... hitting the target.

We had been looking for this role for a while before we retained Candidate Labs. I would say that the other recruiting firms, and I emphasize plural, were sending many candidates, but none were a fit. Whereas with Candidate Labs, I think their search methodology was much more tailored. The caliber of the candidates that were being presented to us were spot on. Every candidate that they provided us was actually a potential candidate that we could hire. And the write-ups that we were getting before I would do a screening interview were very detailed. It saved me a bunch of time.

Expansion to Customer Success Roles

After that, we wanted to do more, so we retained Candidate Labs for our second role, which was on the customer service side of the house. And here again, I think from the moment we had retained Candidate Labs for that search, the candidate we hired was presented to us in about seven days, and we had filled the role within 30 days.

Unlike Traditional Recruiting Firms

So here’s the thing, I don't know much about how their secret sauce works, I have an inkling about it. But what I do know is that with recruiting firms that I've worked with in the past, I'm delegating what I could do to somebody, and there's no leverage or value out in that. It's just straight one-off delegation.

Whereas with Candidate Labs, they have a data insights platform with prospective candidates nationwide and science behind how they tailor that to the role that I'm looking for. And I honestly don’t know exactly how they do it. What I do know is the result, they're putting in front of me really qualified candidates in a fraction of the time that I’m used to.
